Searching for jobs

Use the search feature to find jobs matching your requirements. You can filter and save searches as well as create job alerts if you create an account.


We will ask you for your name, address and your email address so that we can contact you regarding your applications. You will also need to choose a username and password for logging into the website. As soon as you have submitted these details you will be logged in and have access to your personal dashboard.

Here you will be able to add information about your Education and Training, Employment History and Membership of any Professional Bodies. If you decide to apply for a job on-line this information will automatically pre-populate the relevant sections of your application form, saving you the time and trouble of re-entering the information each time.

If you forget your password you can use the 'forgotten password' button and a reset link will be sent to your registered email address.

If you are a current Royal Greenwich employee, redeployee or a current employee/worker of Greenwich Services Plus (GSP) or GSS (either directly employed, agency worker or apprentice), you will need to register/log-in to your account to view internal-only postings - these jobs are available only to internal (RBG, GSP and GSS) and redeployee candidates.  To ensure the system recognises you as an internal candidate, please make sure you have selected the correct answer in the Employment Status section of your Basic Details. To edit this, go to My Dashboard, click on Basic Details and select your relevant status under the Employment Status section. You will be asked to verify your status.

On-line Applications

The online application form has been designed so that it can be saved and resumed at any point, as long as the job is still open.

Please check your application thoroughly before submitting, to ensure that all relevant fields are completed and that the information you have supplied is accurate. Once your application has been submitted you cannot alter or amend it. You will, however, be able to view it, or print a copy through your dashboard.

Search the job listings on this site to identify which job you want to apply for.

  • Click on the job title to view the job details.
  • Click on the "Apply for this job" button for the online application form.
  • If you haven't previously registered to use the site, you will be prompted to do so at this stage.
  • Complete the application form as instructed.
  • You will receive automatic confirmation that your application has been received.

Completing an application form

The application form is the main source of information used to decide whether you will be selected for further consideration. Please complete all parts of the application form, carefully considering the requirements of both the job description and the person specification.

Please detail your full employment history, including the reason for any gaps in employment, within your application form. The gaps in employment will be discussed with you if you are selected for interview.


You will need to give the names, addresses and contact details of two people who can provide references for you. One must be your current employer, or last employer if you are currently unemployed. 

As part of our Safer Recruitment policy, any roles which involve working with children, young people or vulnerable adults, or roles in which the duties will involve access to sensitive information relating to children, young people or vulnerable adults, the Royal Borough will take up references prior to interview. You should provide details of referees including your current and previous employers, covering the last 5 years.

As part of our Safer Recruitment policy, if your employment history does not cover the last 5 years, you will need to provide details of personal referee(s) to cover gaps in employment or covering the entire last 5 years. The personal referee is someone in a professional capacity but does not have to be your manager. A personal referee cannot be related to you in any way.

Supporting Statement

Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application. It is your chance to show how your skills and experience meet the criteria set out on the person specification. Candidates will be short-listed for interview based on how well they meet the criteria. You should give examples that clearly demonstrate your skills, knowledge and experience. Please read the application form, job description and person specification carefully, so that you understand what the position involves. As part of the selection process, you will need to explain how you meet the key requirements for this role listed in the person specification. Use the acronym STARR when writing your examples - give a brief description of the situation, the specific task you had to complete, focus on the actions you took, the results of your actions, and the reflection (what went well, what did not go so well, what could you do to improve?). If you do not have much past job experience, you can use examples of any relevant experience gained at school, college, voluntary work, work experience or through hobbies. For further guidance, please visit the National Career Service or register with Greenwich Local Labour and Business if you live in the borough.

We select all candidates for interview based on their skills, qualifications and experience.

If the post you are applying for is exempt from the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act 1974 then all convictions, cautions and bind-overs, including those regarded as ‘spent’, must be declared.

At interview, or in a separate discussion, we will ensure that an open and measured discussion takes place on the subject of any offences or other matter that might be relevant to the position.

If you are successful at interview, and the post you are applying for is exempt from the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act 1974 then we will require you to obtain a Certificate of Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). We administer this process. If you’re currently employed by Royal Greenwich and have obtained a Disclosure with Royal Greenwich within the last 3 years, it may not be necessary to apply for another Disclosure.

Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offences. Please refer to the DBS has a code of practice, which we fully comply with. If you have a criminal conviction, but are unsure if you need to declare it, please read the Guidance on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

Frequently asked questions 

Will the recruiting manager be able to see my sensitive data/equal opportunity data?

The information collated from the equal opportunities section is used only for statistical monitoring purposes and is automatically hidden from view when your application is sent to the recruiting manager. It will not be considered during the shortlist selection process or be seen by any manager involved in making the appointment. 


Do I need right to work in the UK for all roles?

Before your appointment we will carry out a check to make sure that you have the right to work in the UK. This is a legal requirement under the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. 

If you do not currently have the right to work in the UK, we only employ people who need a work permit for posts where the Home Office recognise them as a Skilled Worker, e.g. social workers, highly qualified technicians or specialists with rare skills. If the job you are applying for falls within this category and you require sponsorship for right to work, please state this on your application when asked about your right to work. Royal Greenwich is a registered sponsor with UKVI and where the job and applicant meet the relevant sponsorship criteria, we will apply for sponsorship for the candidate should the candidate be successful after interview.
