Operational Supervisor (Career graded)
Grade SO1 – PO2
£37,068 - £44,331 plus Contractual Overtime
An opportunity has arisen for 1 Operational Supervisor (Career Graded) within Street Services. You will be part of the team responsible for the delivery of the Council’s most visible frontline services. You will have responsibility for the day to day management of the effective and efficient delivery of the full range of waste collection and street cleansing functions across the borough.
Key aspects of your role will include the:-
- Ability to supervise, direct and monitor a multi-disciplinary team of operational staff to deliver an effective and efficient waste and street cleansing service across the entire Borough
- Ability to divert resources as the services require on a day to day basis, and to respond to requests and emergency situations as they arise
- Ability to ensure that appropriate performance standards are effectively monitored, met and maintained in relation to frontline service activity, and corrective action taken where appropriate in accordance with the appropriate Council policy and procedures, including absence management, conduct issues, capability, training and development and other performance related matters
- Ability to monitor and manage workflows generated by the departments Environmental Management System (Whitespace) and ensure the systems are being used effectively by frontline staff
- Effective use of other ICT systems and software available such as route optimization and tracking software to ensure the efficient and safe management of service delivery
- Setting an example to staff by developing a professional, courteous and positive working environment

This role operates in a busy operational environment where circumstances and priorities constantly change. The services operate between 5.30am – 8.00pm, sometime later and you could be working the morning or afternoon shift on either waste collection or street cleansing, depending on the needs of the service. Contractual overtime will be paid for working some weekends and you will also be expected to work bank holidays in accordance with service needs. This will be explained in more detail to successful candidates.
You must have a full driving licence.
This is a career graded role that offers a development opportunity for staff to develop their supervisory and management skills over a 3 year period and to work towards achieving a nationally recognised qualification in the process.
