Asbestos Supervisor
Royal Greenwich is proud to be a borough known for its world-class modern services. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, our vibrant and diverse communities thrive under the leadership of our elected members, who are ambitious to unlock the borough's full potential even in a challenging financial environment.
About the Repairs and Investment Service:
The Repairs and Investment service, within the Housing and Safer Communities Directorate, plays a crucial role in delivering responsive repairs, capital works, and safety and compliance services to over 25,000 Council tenants and leaseholders. With approximately 80,000 repairs carried out annually and a capital programme of around £30m this year, we rely on both in-house teams and external contractors to deliver our services.
As one of London’s largest social landlords, the safety of our tenants and staff is our top priority. To ensure this, we have created a new Compliance team focused on driving safety standards and compliance across the borough.
The Role: Asbestos Supervisor
We are looking for a qualified, experienced, and professional Asbestos Supervisor to join our Compliance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient management of asbestos-related activities across the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
You will be working alongside the Asbestos Delivery Manager to oversee the delivery of asbestos services, including managing asbestos removal and surveying contracts, scoping and reviewing asbestos surveys, and providing technical support to our in-house teams. You’ll ensure the asbestos register is kept up-to-date, raise orders, and manage programmes of surveys and remediation work to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Asbestos Contract Management: Support the Asbestos Delivery Manager in managing asbestos removal and surveying contracts, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Survey & Remediation Oversight: Scope, review, and manage asbestos surveys and remediation work, ensuring all activities meet regulatory standards.
- Compliance Monitoring: Keep the asbestos register system up-to-date, ensuring all data is accurate and compliant with relevant legislation.
- Team Support & Communication: Provide technical support to in-house teams and liaise with contractors, residents, and staff. Excellent communication skills are essential for managing multiple priorities and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.
- Health & Safety Leadership: Champion a structured, safety-first approach to managing asbestos within our housing stock, ensuring all procedures and processes are followed to the highest standards.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Encourage innovation and look for ways to improve asbestos management processes and service delivery.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in asbestos surveying, removal, and compliance management, with a solid understanding of regulatory standards and safety procedures.
- Technical expertise in managing asbestos-related work, including the ability to scope and review surveys and remediation projects.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with residents, contractors, staff, and elected members while juggling competing priorities.
- A structured, detail-oriented approach to managing asbestos services and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Leadership potential: Ability to support and guide teams while fostering a positive and proactive 'Can-Do' culture within the service.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working within the social housing sector or a similar large-scale housing maintenance environment.
- Knowledge of asbestos regulatory frameworks and experience managing asbestos compliance in a housing or public sector setting.
Why Join Us?
- Career Progression: We offer excellent opportunities for career development and professional growth to help you reach your full potential.
- Supportive Team Environment: Join a collaborative, results-driven team that values innovation and continuous improvement.
- Competitive Salary & Benefits: Enjoy a competitive salary along with a range of employee benefits.
- Impactful Work: Play a key role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents, directly impacting the lives of those in our borough.
If you're passionate about safety and have the technical expertise to manage asbestos services effectively, we'd love to hear from you.
